Introduction to Signwriting:

Signwriting became common in 18th century England as literacy rates increased. By the Victorian era, signwriters were in high demand, producing hand-lettered signage for shops, restaurants, pubs, and vehicles. The craft declined steeply with the introduction of computer cut plastic signs in the 1980s, but it has witnessed a recent resurgence.
