What We Offer:

  • Explore Historic Buildings: Discover a variety of historic buildings, from a medieval town house to to a mid-20th century prefab.
  • Hands-On Activities: Pupils will have the opportunity to experience wattle and daub, brickmaking and timber construction.
  • Interactive Storytelling: Learn about the daily lives of people from the past and how these buildings contributed to their way of life.

Key Stages:

Homes through time is suitable for KS1 and KS2 pupils and can be adapted for individuals with additional needs.

For key stage 1 groups, we offer a ‘Three Little Pigs’ session involving a retelling of the classic fairy tale, serving to make the themes of building and construction easily accessible and engaging for younger audiences.

Curriculum Connections:

Our offer is designed to support the National Curriculum, covering topics in history, design and technology, and science. It’s a perfect complement to classroom learning, providing a tangible connection to historical concepts.

‘Homes through time’ is designed for up groups of 30 pupils.

Duration:

3 hours (including 45-minute lunch)

Pupils will have additional time to explore the Museum’s 19-acre site and the remainder of our 30 historic buildings spanning 700 years.
