Willow Skein & Split Hazel Frame Basketry Date: Saturday 28th March 2026 Time: 10:00 am – 4:30 pm Duration: 6 ½ hours Course details: Join us for a hands-on day exploring the beautiful art of willow skeining and frame basketry. We’ll begin by splitting willow rods with a knife then into a three-part cleave, then refine them into skeins using a mix of shave tools. Next, we’ll move on to the hazel—cleaving and dressing rods with a knife to form the basket’s frame. Once we’ve had a go at preparing all the main components, we’ll bring them together to weave a small frame basket using the skeined willow. This workshop is rooted in critically endangered heritage craft techniques and inspired by natural materials —an invitation to slow down, work with your hands, and connect with these traditional methods.
