Linoprinting or linocut is a bold and expressive form of printmaking that emerged in the early 1900s, when artists discovered that humble linoleum flooring could be transformed into a creative medium. Pioneered by German Expressionists like Ernst Ludwig Kirchner and later embraced by masters such as Pablo Picasso, linoprinting allowed artists to carve directly into soft linoleum, roll it with ink, and press it onto paper to reveal striking, graphic designs. Celebrated for its accessibility and versatility, linoprinting enables people to explore texture, contrast, and creativity through the simple act of carving and printing.
