Introduction to Nalbinding Nalbinding is the ancient craft of making flat or three-dimensional textiles from loops of yarn. It predates knitting and crochet and has its origins in prehistory, becoming popular in Early Medieval and Viking societies. Course details: Trace this ancient craft from its prehistoric origins to its recent craft revival (and inclusion on the Red List of Endangered Crafts) whilst learning five different stitches, including simple looping, looping-around-a-core (Tybrind Vig stitch), Tarim stitch, York stitch and Oslo stitch. You will make sample swatches and begin a larger project you can continue at home. Tutor Details: Sally Pointer has a background in archaeology and in museum learning. She is the author of ‘The Artifice of Beauty, a practical guide to perfumes and cosmetics’ and now works as a freelance heritage educator exploring traditional crafts through practical experiments.
