Workshop details:

Step back into the 17th century and craft a functional piece of history. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll create a simple 17th-century style belt pouch, inspired by a Civil War woodcut of a soldier.

During the workshop, you’ll learn how to:

  • Cut and shape leather for a turned construction pouch
  • Attach belt loops securely so it’s ready to wear
  • Finish and fasten using a traditional thong-and-disk closure
  • Personalise your pouch with decorative options you can add later

Whether you’re a reenactor, history enthusiast, or simply love traditional leatherwork, this workshop offers the chance to build a timeless, functional accessory with your own hands.

Tutor Details: Alison Milton is one half of Alison and Hugh’s Handmade Things who produce replica historic artefacts for museums, historic sites, reenactors and films. Alison produces leatherwork based on archaeological finds or historical images and is renowned for the quality and authenticity of her work. You can find examples of her leatherwork in Hull and East Riding Museum, Historic Royal Palaces, and at reenactments all over the country as well as in films.
