This hands-on workshop, participants will produce a hand carved panel with a geometric design based on medieval principles. The session will cover: -The essential tools of the craft and how to use them -Selecting the correct timber for carving -How to mark out a design using simple medieval geometry -Carving your own design into an oak board, which could be used as wall art or be incorporated into a future project. No prior experience required. Tutor Details: Hugh Milton is one half of Alison and Hugh’s Handmade Things who produce replica historic artefacts for museums, historic sites, reenactors and films. Hugh is renowned for his carved boxes and other furniture. Hugh’s carving is completed entirely by hand and examples of his work can be seen in St. Fagans Museum, Harlech Castle, Little Moreton Hall, Chester Castle Agricola Tower and many other places.
