Course details: Exploring existing tales and incredible true history, author Kate Innes will help you create your very own folktale inspired by the intriguing buildings at Avoncroft and the power and variety of nature. The creative process can sometimes feel like a fire that grows from a tiny spark. A place, flower, animal, feeling or object can start us on an unexpected and exciting path. In this creative writing workshop, Kate will provide a framework and lots of support and resources to start you on your journey down the winding road of folktales. Suitable for every level of experience, this workshop will be a safe creative space to share your own unique and wonderful tales. Fee: £50 (£45 for members). Fee includes Museum admission (£15 per person and access to our 19-acre site and 30 historic buildings). Please note, the reduced members rate applies to members only. Tutor Details: Kate writes fiction and poetry for adults and children; she also enables people of all ages to express the important stories inside them. Trained as an archaeologist and a teacher, Kate went on to gain an MA in Museum Studies and worked as a Museum Educator around the West Midlands – including at Avoncroft Museum in the 1990’s! Her books include the highly-acclaimed medieval Arrowsmith Trilogy – and historical fantasies for young people – Greencoats and An Ancient Haunting. Kate also writes award-winning poetry and has two published collections. She delivers events at festivals, schools, universities, U3As, WIs, and numerous other gatherings. Participant information: The session will involve a brief walk around the Museum site. Please wear appropriate clothing for an outdoor setting.
