Date: Saturday 9th August

Time: 10:00 am – 3:30 pm (includes 1-hour lunch break)

Duration: 5 ½ hours

Course details: Join us for a fun, hands-on workshop that takes inspiration from the Second World War’s ‘Dig for Victory’ campaign. Discover how people turned their gardens into productive spaces during times of food shortage and learn how you can do the same today!

We’ll explore the clever ways people grew their own food from digging up lawns to using every inch of garden space. Then, we’ll bring things into the present and look at how you can grow delicious fruit and vegetables right where you are—whether that’s via an allotment, raised beds, or a few pots on your patio.

During this practical session, you’ll get your hands dirty learning essential skills like seed sowing, growing, and caring for your crops. This is a perfect session for everyone, whether you’re just curious or already green-fingered. Pots or plots—there’s something here for you!

Tutor Details: Rudge Wood Horticulture CIC was founded by joint directors, Darren Rudge and Helen Wood in 2020. Both have worked in horticulture for over 30 years; teaching, training and creating gardens.

Darren and Helen taught together at The Cedars Horticulture Centre in Wolverhampton, before its closure by Wolverhampton College in 2013. Since then, they have continued to teach and train many hundreds of horticulturalists in Birmingham and across the Black Country.

In 2016, they help to set up an RHS approved qualification and teaching centre at Winterbourne Centre for Horticulture in Edgbaston, Birmingham, where they continue to deliver high quality education in horticulture.
