Waking up with Wassailing at Avoncroft Museum, a family friendly event.

Children Go Free is back * (two children free with each full price adult ticket purchased, no need to buy child tickets just show adult ticket)

To open up the Museum we have planned a traditional ‘Waking Up with Wassailing’ over five days during the February half term week from Wednesday 14th February to Sunday 18th and February 2024.

We will have two processions taking place each day at 11.00am  and 1.30pm so there will be plenty of time to visit some of our historical buildings and grounds or take part in our Wassailing Activities, while enjoying some music before or following the Wassailing.

Our visitors will be encouraged to join in the procession (feel free to dress up in bright colours and capes and cloaks) and sing along song sheets with traditional wassailing songs (song sheets will be provided) and making a noise with pots, pans and bells.(feel free to bring your own and we will provide some as well)  A King and Queen of the Wassail will be selected by our procession leader crowned a greenery wreath. Before the gathered crowd forms a procession that will wind its way to the Avoncroft Orchard.

A special Wassail (toast) will be made to the trees in our beautiful Orchard by all gathered and trees will be selected for decorating.  Along with some learning opportunity surrounding our historical cider press and a chance to take part in wassailing themed activities.

The procession will arrive back at the Guesten Hall where some warmed mulled apple juice will be given out so we can all make a grand Wassail (toast) and sing the Wassail song,

Please note a daily ticket will be required for entry to the Museum or free to members.
